Simple byaj: the same interest accrues every month on the original principal.

What is Sekda Byaj Calculator?

Sekda byaj (also spelled sainkda, saikda or sekdo byaj) is the way interest is quoted across most of rural and small-town India: rupees of interest per ₹100 of principal, per month. "Do rupaye sekda" means ₹2 per ₹100 per month. Because the rate is stated monthly and per hundred rather than as an annual percentage, the true cost is easy to underestimate — ₹2 sekda is 2% a month, which is 24% a year on a simple-interest basis, not 2%.

How to use VyajPay's Sekda Byaj Calculator?

Enter the loan amount, the sekda rate you agreed (₹1, ₹1.50, ₹2, ₹3 per hundred per month) and how many months the money is out. The calculator shows the byaj due each month, the total byaj over the full period, the equivalent annual rate, and the total you will repay. Use it before you lend so both sides agree on the number, and keep the same rate in your VyajPay khata so the running total never has to be recalculated by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

₹2 of interest for every ₹100 borrowed, every month. On a ₹50,000 loan that is ₹1,000 a month. Stated as a percentage it is 2% per month, or 24% per year on a simple-interest basis.

Multiply the sekda figure by 12. ₹1 sekda = 12% per year, ₹1.50 = 18%, ₹2 = 24%, ₹3 = 36%, ₹5 = 60% — all on a simple-interest basis. If the interest is not paid monthly and rolls into the principal, the effective rate is higher still.

It is simple interest expressed differently. Sekda states rupees per hundred per month; simple interest states a percentage per year. The calculator converts between them for you.

Both refer to the same thing. You will also see saikda, sekdo and sainkade depending on the region and language — Hindi, Marwari, Gujarati and Marathi all use a version of the word for "per hundred".

Money lending is regulated state by state under the relevant Money Lenders Act, and several states cap the rate a registered lender may charge. Check your own state’s rules and register if required. VyajPay is a bookkeeping app — it records the transactions you have agreed and does not lend money or set rates.
