Work backwards from the amount repaid to the rate you were actually charged
An interest rate calculator works backwards. Instead of asking "how much byaj will I pay", it answers "what rate was I actually charged". Give it the amount borrowed, the total interest that changed hands and how long the money was out, and it returns the rate per month, the equivalent sekda figure, and the simple annual rate. This is the calculation that turns an informal arrangement — "I gave him ₹50,000 and got ₹62,000 back after a year" — into a number you can compare with anything else.
Enter the amount borrowed, the total interest paid over the whole period, and the number of months. The calculator divides the interest across the principal and the months to give the monthly rate, then multiplies by 12 for the annual figure. Because sekda is defined as rupees per hundred per month, the monthly percentage and the sekda figure are the same number — ₹2 sekda is 2% a month.

Subtract the amount borrowed from the total repaid to get the interest, then enter that figure here along with the principal and the number of months. The calculator returns the monthly and annual rate.
Simple interest. It spreads the total interest evenly across the principal and the term, which is how informal lending in India is normally quoted. If the interest was compounded, the true periodic rate will be lower than the figure shown.
Sekda means rupees per ₹100 per month. Since a percentage is also "per hundred", ₹2 per ₹100 per month is 2% per month — the same number in different words.
Informal lending is commonly quoted between ₹1 and ₹3 per hundred per month, which is 12% to 36% a year. Rates above that are widespread but several states cap what a registered money lender may charge — check the Money Lenders Act in your state.
